The 11th International Printing and Packaging Machinery Exhibition, which is the most important trade event in Iran, took place from 13 to16 February 2005 in Tehran's Permanent Fairground. The event attracted many visitors from all over Iran and other countries. The exhibition was held with the participation of 400 companies. Comparing to the last year the exhibition grew by 40%.
Other than manufacturers of printing and packaging equipment, print houses, service providers as well as representatives of major graphic arts companies such as Heidelberg, KBA, Windmoller & Holscher, Agfa, Creo, Kodak, Bobst and suppliers of large format printers and string of other companies involved in world of graphic communications took part in the local mega event.
On the other hand a host of dealers and service providers from Turkey and neighbouring Arab countries put on display their latest offerings and services. The huge and dynamic Iranian market with 70 million population and reach in oil resources is very attractive for foreign companies and investors.
Parallel to the 11th International Printing and Packaging Machinery Exhibition a more modest exhibition on advertisement and marketing was held as well. In this exhibition major suppliers of large format printers displayed state-of-the -art inkjet machines and consumables.
The major features of the both exhibitions are as follows:
-The local ink manufacturers enhancing the quality and variety of their products increasingly are challenging foreign brands.
-Production of plastic corrugated cartons and its accessories are on the rise and Iranian manufacturers are ready to export their products.
- Flexo and rotogravure printers with new capacity and more advanced
equipment had an impressive presentation during the show.
-Producers of consumables and press room chemicals are enjoying a
tremendous growth and this was quite palpable during the show.
-Some of the suppliers of major digital printing equipment decided not to
participate in the show.
The quality and level of knowledge and professionalism of the visitors were high which pleased the exhibitors. Many major deals were achieved during the show. Sanat e Chap magazine with the cooperation of Tehran's University of Art organized a series of specialized technical tours. For the second consecutive time the event was organized by Tehran Printers' Union.

Importers and agents
Usually many visitors are interested to see new technology on offer by the major international graphic arts suppliers. In this year’s event many suppliers and their agents preferred not to bring equipment. However some displayed state – of-the-art equipment as well.
Aftab Khalij company introduced two laminators from Korean manufacturer GSS and a DGI large format printer during the show. Iran Rotative, Heidelberg’s agent in Iran did not bring any machine to the show. Instead the company used the opportunity to offer information and meet face to face with its customers.
Baden put on display laminators from French manufacturer, Seal.
Kangaroo plastic, member of Green Coast Enterprises Group and based in Dubai is one of the major package printers in Middle East. The company showcased samples of its pointed products during the show. Padid Pardazesh Pooya introduced a LD5100 Konica Minolta copy printer. Pardazesh Tasvir Rayan, agent of Agfa and DuPont in Iran showcased its flagship CTP system, Galileo plus Apogee workflow and wide range of DuPont’s flexo plates. Chehel Chap, which represents Graphic Wizards in Iran, recently sold a number of finishing equipment including cutting, perforating, folding and creasing machines. The company brought two small folding and creasing machines to the show. DCM group opted for a small stand. DCM includes ATN, USCIMECA and DCM.
Sayan Dadeh Pardaz distributor of Screen and exclusive agent of Xeikon and Zund large format printers also didn’t bring any machine to the show. On the other hand Sibestan put on display a Cyrel Digital Imager and Scope workflow. The company represents Esko Graphics in Iran. Man Graphic one of the major used equipment dealer in Iran was one of the few exhibitors who brought equipment to the show. The one color B2 Speedmaster in company’s stand attracted many visitors. Nouriani Enterprises, one of the leading and respected supplier of graphic arts equipment and supplies introduced Sicpa inks and varnishes plus a wide range of other consumables. Noortek agent of Creo and KBA sheetfed presses in Iran initially decided to showcase a 5 color Rapida 105 but due to unexpected problems the machine was not shown and the company instead presented the different features and capabilities of Networked Graphic Production.
Packaging printing and materials
Flexo and rotogravure printers demonstrated their capabilities during the show. Last year Iranian package printers carried out huge amount of investments on equipment and supplies. Offset printers, prepress houses and finishing centers also set up small stands to showcase a glimpse of their services, including diemaking and UV varnishing. Almost al the major package printers participated in he event. Ian Sepehr is looking forward to buying a new 7 color rotogravure press. Paytakht Gostar is distributing DuPont flexo plates. Pooyesh Chap, which is equipped with 8 color rotogravure press and a range of other equipment, will install two Tandem extrusion lines plus a triplex laminating machine. Chabok Chap, which received substantial orders during the exhibition, will purchase a new Bielloni slitter. Chap Parsian recently installed a Steinneman UV varnishing system is looking forward to increase its capacity. Chap Sahab which specializes in printing geographical maps is one of the few printers, who have large format sheetfed presses in Iran. The company is now active in commercial and advertising markets as well. With the installation of first 10 color rotogravure press in Iran Chap Tahani is enjoying a unique position among flexible package printers.
Chap Golchin, which has recently installed the first Karat 74 in Iran, showcased a range of printed products. The company also promoted its new partial metalize and matt products. Shirin Kaman Asal introduced its paraffin paper. Companies involved in Cylinder engraving systems including Naghsh Mehr were active during the exhibition.
Nikan Pardazesh has opted for a range of new equipment including Creo platesetter and iQ smart. The company introduced specimen of its pointed products which were produced using FM screening.
Advertising
Parallel to 10th printing and machinery, a more modest exhibition on advertisement and marketing was also held. In this exhibition major suppliers of large format printers displayed state-of-the-art inkjet machines and consumables. On the other hand some of the advertising and graphic design companies decided to participate in the printing and packaging exhibition. These companies included Arang Graphic, Almas Negar, Kanoon Informatic, Abnous Negar, Arayeh Satrap Part, Sarobon and others chose the advertisement exhibition. Large format printers including Jeti, Techwin and a range of Korean brands filled the stands of major ad agencies and graphic design companies. This is clear indication of the rapid development of inkjet industry in Iran.
Inks and prepress chemicals
One of the most crowded stands in exhibition belonged to suppliers of inks and press room chemicals. Iranian producers such as Ava Mahya Shimi, Behroofaran, Thermocolor, Melika and others introduced wide range of offset, flexo and gravure inks. The Iranian ink manufacturers pose a serious threat to foreign brands such as Sicpa, Sun Chemicals and others.
